Two bikes side by side is the easiest two-machine load on this list — motorcycles are narrow. The work is in the tie-down geometry, not the deck space.

The width and length math

For a named 2026 reference, the standard Harley-Davidson Road Glide is 37.2 inches wide and 94.9 inches long; the standard BMW R 1300 GS is 39.4 inches wide over the hand guards and 87.1 inches long over the splash guard. Rugged recommends allowing about 80 inches for two large motorcycles so the bars and controls have working clearance. On a 78-inch Rugged deck, two big touring bikes ride slightly offset (front wheels a foot apart in stagger), while two mid-size bikes may ride parallel after their exact measurements are checked. One bike fits anything we build.

Tie-down geometry that protects the bike

  • Use a wheel chock per bike — compression straps alone let the front wheel walk under braking.
  • Four points per bike: two from the lower triple clamp or crash bars forward at ~45°, two from the frame or subframe rearward. Compress the front suspension about a third, no more.
  • Soft loops on every painted or polished surface. Never strap from handlebars on heavy bikes — confirm your model’s approved tie-down points in its manual.
